ABOUT US
Where did we come from?
We are a family owned masonry contractor who has been serving the Rogue Valley since 1951. Originally started by Carleton Sandeen, who after coming home from WWII, married, started a family, and worked as a carpentry foreman in Southern California. He was always interested in the masonry trade, and after learning it in CA, he traded his house in Riverside for a place in Rogue River, OR. He moved his family north, and founded Sandeen Masonry. In the beginning he primarily did house foundations and fireplaces. But he soon had employees and began working on various commercial and government projects in addition to his residential clients.
In 1971, Carleton’s son Andrew, fresh out of the Coast Guard, started as an apprentice bricklayer and was soon involved in expanding the company into all aspects of masonry in Southern Oregon. An emphasis was put on acquiring equipment that made it possible to perform any size project in the area. Carleton retired in the early 80’s to enjoy traveling and fishing. Andrew continued to grow the business, taking on larger projects.
In 1997, Andrew’s son Alex started full time, followed a few years later by his brother Jared. Both apprenticed as bricklayers and were soon helping supervise projects. The company continued to grow, now leaning almost entirely toward commercial and government projects. Andrew retired in 2016, having ‘served his sentence’, leaving the company to Alex and Jared. With double the energy, they continued to pursue more and larger projects while also adding employees and reengaging in the residential masonry market.
We are proud of what we’ve done, who we are and where we came from. We strive to continue in the integrity and quality that our company has provided to our trade and this community for over 70 years!
